4 Easy Steps To the Prefect

Eco-system for your Large Ponds and Small Lakes     (information provided courtesy of Airmax®)

This system is designed to help you overcome your pond's self-destructive life cycle. Over the years debris collects in the bottom of  your pond. This excessive debris can cause algae blooms and invasive weeds to grow. Your crystal clear pond can become a stagnant mess of algae and weeds. This four step program is designed to reverse this process.

Understand Your Pond's Life Cycle

There are two basic Life Cycles of your large pond.

Stage One: When you pond is new there are no weeds or debris. Over time your pond starts to accumulate debris on the bottom. At During these first years your pond's nutrient level is relatively low resulting in very few weeds or algae growth. The amount of debris going into the pond and the type of soil your pond was constructed from will determine how long your pond with stay in stage one.

Stage Two: Normally a pond will enter this stage after 3-5 years.  You will start noticing excessive algae blooms, and more weeds. Grasses and cattails begin to grow around the edges of your pond. The total nutrient level keeps increasing by these algae blooms and weeds. Left unchecked, chemical treatments may become necessary. When they are used correctly, they will provide a temporary fix to the weed and algae control. Chemicals  are not designed to prevent growth only to destroy existing growth you already have. They do not eliminate the nutrients that are feeding these plants.

Aeration---Prevent Winter Fish Kills

Aeration is vital to the pond. Aeration mixes the pond's water so that toxic gases are efficiently released from the water and life-giving Oxygen is readily available. This results in a cleaner, clearer, healthier pond with less muck build-up. Beneficial bacteria and other water-cleaning organisms use oxygen to operate their metabolic processes. By providing the necessary oxygen to the pond's bottom you are providing them with the oxygen they need to live and break down this debris.  Resulting in a much healthier ecosystem.

Aeration benefits:

Calculating Your Pond Size in Acres: (Length x Width) divided by 43,560 = # of Acres

EX: 100' x 150' with a depth of 12' so 15000  divided by 43560 =.35 or 1/3 acre surface area and a one plate system will handle 9-12' deep.
